Against the backdrop of escalating tensions along the Syrian border, the decades-long "frozen identity" of the Golan Heights Druze is reaching a historic breaking point. Following the October 7 war and the threat of regional escalation, a community once fiercely loyal to Damascus is now forced into a radical rethinking of survival and belonging.

The film follows Aya, a 19-year-old ice hockey player dreaming of representing Israel, and her uncle Ayoub, an elder who views her choice as a betrayal of their Syrian roots. Filmed over four years with rare access, On Thin Ice captures the collapse of a 55-year-old status quo at the exact moment the border becomes a global flashpoint.
