Catherine Vanier is an important French ceramist who has just turned 75 year old and lives in Bourgogne. She started working with clay at the age of seventeen, when she attended the school of decorative arts in Geneva; at the age of nineteen she encounters – at first on the books and then for real at the Victoria and Albert museum in London – the Islamic ceramics. Following the inspiration of those ancient pieces that she felt deeply connected to, she spent most of her life developing a unique and personal style of decoration, pursuing what she defines “an imperious desire”.

La Potière is a film on how the meeting with the artefacts from a faraway culture originated ten centuries earlier can spark off the inspiration of a life long pursue of that elusive spirit that inhabits some pieces of ceramics and allows them to reach people's soul. A trip back in time when the Jewish family of Catherine used to live in the Arab kingdom of al-Andalus.
