When the Israeli prisoners of war return home from captivity in Egypt and Syria, they have usually experienced fierce fighting in battle, and sometimes even torture at the hands of the enemy. In Israel, they are taken to a debriefing facility, to see how much information they gave to the enemy during their interrogation as prisoners, which would cause devastating harm to the nation’s security for many long years to come. The interrogation that these prisoners undergo in Israel is based on the experience of the U.S., British, and other militaries, who had prisoners returned to them. In all these cases, the ex-prisoners were forced to undergo security and intelligence debriefings to ensure that they pose no risk to their respective countries. Some of the prisoners received Thiopental Sodium injections (Pentothal) , a chemical used by the military during the Second World War, that was intended to lower their physical and psychological resistance to interrogation.
