In 1996, seven Trappist monks were kidnapped and killed in Algeria. These men were longtime residents of Algeria, living in their monastery in the Atlas Mountains. French by birth, they adapted to their new surroundings and were open to the Muslim majority surrounding them. But on the night of March 27th 1996 things changed forever – and a precedent in the relationship between Islam and the West was set into motion.

This gripping documentary tells the harrowing story of that night – and of how fanatics can change the status quo. The kidnapping of seven Catholic monks became a diplomatic issue between France and its former colony.
